City of Groton Mayor Keith Hedrick is headed to a third term, despite not officially appearing on the ballot in Monday's election. Hedrick had to wage a write-in campaign after he lost the Democratic primary to town councilor Aundre Bumgardner by five votes in March. The Day of New London reports Hedrick won yesterday by about 140 votes. If the 26-year-old Bumgardner had prevailed, he would have been the city's first Black and Latino mayor, and the youngest mayor currently serving in Connecticut.
